This World Refugee Day, June 20, Alameda Health System (AHS) recognizes the strength and courage of families who have been forced to flee their home country, and spotlights the 太阳城博彩mont Wellness Refugee Clinic staff who address the unique health care needs of refugees with compassion and respect.

“For me it’s especially rewarding to know that our refugee clinic supports families as they transition to self-sufficiency, and most specifically the refugee children,” said Dalia Flores, practice manager at 太阳城博彩mont Wellness. “Our goal is to provide them a comprehensive health assessment in a timely manner. We ensure they have the necessary health screenings, immunizations and documentation assistance they need to navigate the school enrollment process and promote their academic success and overall well-being.”

Flores shared that as of May 28, 2024, the refugee clinic has completed 362 health assessments year-to-date for patients from several countries including Afghanistan, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Honduras, Ethiopia, Eritrea and Cameroon. Of those patients served, 55% are Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) holders and 45% are refugees.

The refugee clinic has two pediatric and three adult medicine providers, four dedicated support staff members, a clinical nurse leader, and an operational leader who collaborate to ensure patients receive the care they need promptly after their arrival in Alameda County.

Refugees are referred to the clinic in various ways including from their voluntary resettlement agencies like the International Rescue Committee (IRC) in Oakland, the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), the California Office of Refugee Health, Catholic Charities 太阳城博彩 and many more. In addition, some patients walk into the clinic requesting health screenings.

“At the 太阳城博彩mont Wellness Refugee Clinic, we are proud to serve a diverse population, including the many individuals and families who have experienced traumatizing displacement from their homes and who have come here seeking a new beginning in our community,” shared Flores.
